BioShock & Philosophy

#ObliviousPhilosophy So, things can get murky. If you haven’t played the #BioShock series, I highly recommend you pick up the remastered BioShock Collection on the cheap. Fantastic games and well worth the money. Alternatively, if you’ve played the games or just want straight into the philosophy of it all, continue on...

Off Topic: General - BioShock & Philosophy image 2

#Wisecrack released their newest “Is It Deep or Dumb?” video just yesterday, all about the much maligned middle child of the BioShock series... Video Link: https://youtu.be/b81nGs7J3y0

But because I love both ALL of BioShock and Philosophy, I figured it was a good time to throw out that video and the one that preceded it years ago. Video Link: https://youtu.be/yKf4MtZ4RQA

To start, where do stand on the status of the BioShock series? Deep and brilliant? Convoluted mess? Fun, but nothing more? Of course, I’d say they’re outstanding, but the choice is yours... How about the philosophy though? Do the games more properly portray the flaws of the societies within Rapture and Columbia on a strictly philosophical level, or perhaps are we looking more at the disintegration of social order due to our innate human flaws alone? Free will, does it exist? Hmm... If you want to get into that subject, check out my previous philosophy post here: https://moot.us/lounges/110/boards/25/posts/293733/random-philosophy-free-will-amp-determinism

I love these games! Especially the puzzles

My only problem is that there aren’t more of these games. On a far enough timeline, I’d love to visit these worlds in VR with more depth and detail — and with more puzzles.
